Inkeri Yritys, chair of the Kittilä Municipal Council, through an initiative had sidelined the municipal board from handling matters pertaining to a ski lift controversy a month ago.
In September, Yritys had blocked the municipal board members from dealing with a possible dismissal of the mayor. The controversy started when the mayor expressed her concerns at the ski-lift tender in Levi to the police bypassing the municipal board.
The municipal council on Monday overwhelmingly voted in favour of disbanding Yritys’ initiative as 23 councillors voted against her motion. Only 2 councillors voted in support of Yritys.

During her speech, Yritys criticised the council’s decision, terming it erratic and illegal.
In late September, the council decided to go ahead with its plan to dismiss the town’s mayor. The council downed a motion to discontinue with the proposal to dismiss the mayor 23-3.
The council concluded that the temporary committee looking into the dismissal may continue with its work. The committee has already stated that the mayor cannot continue in office due to a lack of confidence.
The National Bureau of Investigation is investigating the roles of the CEO of the company and other figures in positions of responsibility within the municipality in the ski lift tender.
