The Green members of European Parliament (MEPs) are planning to vote against the new composition of the European Commission.

The European Parliament will vote today on the new EC composition.

The new commission needs to be approved by a majority of votes.

Heidi Hautala, a Vihreä Liito (Green League) politician, believes Jean-Claude Juncker, the president-elect of the European Commission, did not take into account sustainable development and the perspective of environment in his choice of commissioners and distribution of portfolios.

The Greens have been critical of the incoming climate and energy commissioner, Miguel Arias Canetea, who has ties to the oil industry.

Former Finnish prime minister Jyrki Katainen seems to have not had a positive effect on the Greens, too. Katainen is believed to be driving a very single-minded and strict fiscal discipline.

Hautala believes the Greens are capable of cooperation with the EC on specific matters.
