Majority of voters believe parliamentary elections will offer them a real opportunity to change the political direction, according to a survey commissioned by the Foundation for Municipal Development.

Nearly 60 percent of respondents share the view that parliamentary elections will give voters a say on the political direction.

According to the survey which interviewed a thousand people, three out four respondents were in favour of political parties releasing their election manifestos before parliamentary elections.

The survey which was conducted by TNS Gallup in September, showed that voters wanted political parties to state their position, so that voters would have the opportunity to influence the composition of the incoming government. Nearly 28 percent of the respondents were in total agreement with the view, while 44 percent of the respondents were or less supportive of the idea.

Among the political parties, supporters of the Vasemmistoliitto (Left Alliance) were most supportive of the idea calling for parties to state their stand before elections. The most skeptical of the idea were supporters of Kansallinen Kokkomus (National Coalition Party), with one out of four respondents doubtful.
