Defense Minister Carl Haglund on Saturday termed the remarks by Swedish Armed Forces Commander regarding joint operation of the Naval forces of Finland and Sweden as “ambitious”.

The Swedish Armed Forces Commander Sverker Göranson on Friday in an interview to local newspaper Expressen said that after nine years Finland and Sweden Navy could have a joint management.

Haglund, however, said that time will show the outcome from the collaboration of Finland and Sweden.

Replying to a query, Haglund in a text message told STT that Göranson’s plans are "ambitious".

“It is good that the Swedish Commander has an ambitious vision for the countries co-operation,” he wrote in the message, adding that the issue of Navy's cooperation details were not yet decided, at least not in any official papers.

It was also confirmed by Haglund assistant and a representative of the military.

According to Haglund, a report will be published in January explaining more detail about expansion of the Finnish and Swedish Defence cooperation.

Göranson, in an interview, said that Finland and Sweden could provide assistance to each other, for example, when the second area is allegedly infringed.

Such a situation would be, for example, submarine exploration, which was made in front of Stockholm last month.
