Authorities in Finland and the Netherlands have cooperated extensively to uncover an organised ring involved in trafficking of drugs such as amphetamines and ecstasy into the country, said the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).

The authorities managed to confiscate an exceptionally large haul of illicit substances during the operations.

More than 30 people of different nationalities including Finns are suspected of the involvement. In total19 people are in custody as the case proceeds to prosecution.

In Holland, a large drug warehouse holding more than 1,800 kilograms of hashish and 330 kilograms of substance used to manufacture amphetamine was busted.

The street value of the hashish in the country would have been more than 18 million euros and amphetamine would have been 8 million euros.

In addition, a cache of amphetamine and ecstasy meant to be trafficked into Finland was seized during the investigation period.

The police also prevented trafficking of hundreds of thousands of Subutex tablets into the country.

In addition to authorities in Finland and the Netherlands, those in Lithuania, Poland, Belgium and France also took part in the operation.
