Police in Helsinki are prepared for a number of demonstrations during the Independence Day on Saturday.

The police have been informed on a few demonstrations planned in different parts of the city.

Chief Inspector Juha Hakola did not give more details, but said the police held discussions with the organisers of the protests.

Hakola said both the parties accept that views have to be expressed, but the means must be generally acceptable.

A gathering is for instance expected in Lähiöst Castle (Lähiöst Linna) in Helsinki Itäkeskus.

Hakola also disclosed that the Helsinki police have requested for police reinforcements from other regions.
