Ibrahim works at R3 association, an immigrant youth support association located in Myyrmäki, Vantaa.
The association works to improve the status and condition of immigrant youth and strives to prevent marginalisation and social exclusion of young immigrants.
The 29-year-old Ibrahim of Somali origin arrived in Finland at the age of 10 as an asylum-seeker.
Although he did not know how to write at that time, he quickly enrolled in school to study in the normal school system.
“Young people should be able to get a work practice place in a Finnish environment, immediately after their arrival in the country. Not every job requires language (skills),” said Ibrahim.
The award, also referred to as Mr. Immigrant, is conferred by the Finnish Refugee Council.
