The vote in parliament was 115-74 in favour of the application, according to a press release of the Ministry of Employment and the Economy.
The parliament voted on the approval or rejection of the positive decision-in-principle made by the government in September.
The decision supplements the decision-in-principle given to Fennovoima in 2010.
The parliament also issued a statement according to which the government should start assessing the need for a general revision of the Nuclear Energy Act.
The Fennovoima decisions-in-principle are valid through June 30, 2015.
The company must submit, by that date, an application for a construction licence for the Pyhäjoki unit to the government, said the release.
If this does not happen, the decision-in-principle made in 2010 and its supplement approved now will expire.
On December 2, Fortum Corporation announced that it would conditionally make an investment of up to 15 per cent in Fennovoima’s Hanhikivi 1 nuclear power plant project.
If Fortum moves ahead with its plan, the domestic ownership level required by the government will easily be fulfilled.
