Sat, 06 Dec, 2014 03:06:30 AM FTimes - STT Report, Dec. 06 ![]() File Photo Lehtikuva. The Defence Forces have suspended leisure flights of Defence Forces staff and their family members by military aircraft, said the Finnish language daily Aamulehti.
According to the report, the decision was reached after the tax authorities had observed that the practice is a taxable benefit.
According to the Aamulehti, the army has not yet decided whether it will appeal the decision.
Earlier, in June 2014, the Aamulehti reported that family members and close relatives of the country’s Defence Forces staff have been enjoying free trips by Armed Forces personnel aircraft.
According to the report, members of senior Defence Forces staff made 60 trips during their spare time.
The army guidelines stipulate that trips made by spouses of senior military officers are catered for, if they are made on official purposes.
The Defence Forces, however, do not pay for visits and accommodation outside official visits.
On the other hand, the newspaper pointed out that Defence Forces staff members could make trips, if there was free space in the aircraft.
Later, the army carried out investigations into the flight benefits of defence staff members and their families.
