Anarchist protests in Helsinki during the Independence Day celebrations resulted in a loss of property worth 100,000 euros, according to police estimates.

The protesters smeared the Metro, broke windows and caused damage to cars parked in the city centre.

The Helsinki police said, 13 people are suspected of crimes related mostly to vandalism.

Some are also suspected of rioting and subordination, as they failed to obey police orders to disperse from Eteläranta where the protesters gathered.

But the suspects who have been interrogated denied taking part in the alleged crimes, said Chief Inspector Kari Martikainen.

A total of 30 people were taken to custody but all of them were freed by early Sunday evening.
