FTimes - STT Report, Dec. 11
Venus, a female polar bear, gave birth to the cubs last Thursday.
The mother and the cubs will be monitored closely with the help of surveillance cameras and microphones.
In a few months, the cubs are expected to weigh up to nearly 10 kilograms and to stroll out with their mother.
Reproduction of polar bears in captivity is rare. For the cubs the first 24 hours after birth are the most critical, since a third of the newly born cubs die.
Half of the newly born cubs die before they are five days old.
A polar bear named Ranzo was the first to be born in captivity three years ago.
