Six people including four women were killed in two separate accidents on National Road 4 in Lapland and Jyväskylä on Sunday.
 
The first accident in which three people perished took place at 10am in Simo, Lapland. An 11-year-old boy, grandchild of a couple who died in the accident, was taken to hospital. According to hospital sources, his life is not in danger.
 
A 19-year-old man from South Ostrobothnia, who was driving the other personal car involved in the head-on collision, also lost his life.
 
He had been attempting to overtake from the oncoming lane which resulted in the head-on collision with the other car.
 
The police had been pursuing the 19-year-old on suspicion of drunk driving. 
 
According to the police, the accident happened on a straight road visible for the oncoming traffic.

The aftermath of the accident forced closure of the national road for several hours.
 
In another accident involving a deadly collision between a truck and a personal vehicle, three young women coming from the north were killed.
 
The accident took place near Vehniä, 17 kilometres from north of Jyväskylä at 6:30pm.
 
The chief fire fighter said the authorities had no clear picture still on how the accident ensued.
 
The truck driver was slightly injured in the accident.
 
Transport Minister Paula Risikko on Sunday evening offered her condolences to the family and friends of the victims.
 
The police are investigating the accident.
