Finland's population at the end of November was 5,472,421, according to Statistics Finland's preliminary data. 
 
Over the January to November period, the country’s population increased by 21,150 persons, which was 2,440 persons fewer than in the corresponding period of the year before. 
 
The main reason for the population increase was migration gain from abroad with the number of immigrants being 15,470 higher than that of emigrants. 
 
Total 28,800 persons immigrated to Finland from abroad and 13,330 persons emigrated from Finland, according to the preliminary statistics for the January to November period, the data show.
 
The number of immigrants was 980 lower and the number of emigrants 250 higher than in the corresponding period of the previous year.   
 
Natural population growth, or excess of births to deaths, was 5,680 persons. 
 
During the January to November period, 52,830 children were born, which is 950 children fewer than in the corresponding period of 2013.
 
The number of deaths was 47,160, which is 270 higher than one year earlier.
