Defence Minister Carl Haglund in an interview with the Finnish language daily Helsingin Sanomat on Saturday expressed no surprise at the updated Russian military doctrine.
The document mentions the military alliance NATO’s military build-up close to Russia as one of Russia’s significant security threats.
The document, according to the defence minister, does not change anything in the country. Haglund said it has been evident in the past year that the Russian policy has become more aggressive.
Haglund recalled that NATO actions were instigated by Russia’s actions in Ukraine.
Haglund said the atmosphere is turning to reflect features of the Cold War.
The defence minister believes the country should have taken note of the change of Russian policy during the 2008 Russian-Georgian war.
