The Southern Finland Regional State Administrative Agency has criticised the Prime Minister’s Office for allowing workplace harassment.

According to the agency, a high-ranking official was responsible for workplace harassment of a subordinate employee.

The employee, according to the agency, had experienced harassment and ill treatment detrimental to his health.

According to the news agency STT, Kari Mokkoa, former government communications director at the Prime Minister’s Office, was investigated for the workplace harassment.

In an email message to STT, Mokkoa said he regrets that the former subordinate expressed concerns at his treatment and working relationship.

Mokkoa said, right from the beginning, he had taken care of the employee’s issue by the light of the Prime Minister’s Office personnel management guidelines and the office’s early intervention principles.

Mokkoa also pointed out that the Prime Minister’s Office investigated the case and found that the guidelines had indeed been followed.

The director of government communications was replaced this autumn. Mokko applied for an extension but was not selected for the job.

The agency was requested to investigate the issue in June last year.
