FTimes-STT Report, Jan 1

Two Stora Enso employees were slightly exposed to toxic chlorine gas at the company’s Oulu paper mill.

The small chlorine leakage took place at Nuottasaari paper mill PK7 at around 11:30am.

It was mainly a case of irritation to the respiratory track, said the chief fire fighter.

The workers were directed to an occupational health service via first aid.

The leak was preceded by a dispensing disorder which as a result led to spread of chlorine gas in the restricted indoor areas.

An alarm was heard in the factory, and the personnel took cover indoors.

The factory manager, Jari Kärkkäinen, and a few other people were working near the site of leakage.

While the paper factory’s production was halted, rescue workers were ensuring that the leak is contained.

It was too early to assess the cause of the leak, according to the chief fire fighter and the factory manager.
