News agency STT has revealed that only a handful of candidates remain unnamed by the major parties.
Based on the reform of the electoral districts, the maximum number of candidates set for a political party in mainland Finland decreases from 238 to 216.
The proportion of women candidates seems to have increased mostly within the Suomen Sosialidemokraattinen Puolue (Social Democratic Party of Finland), where 101 of the 205 nominated candidates are women.
As at the moment, the number of women candidates listed by the Kansallinen Kokoomus (National Coalition Party) is slightly higher than the total number of women candidates the party fielded in the past elections.
The Suomen Keskusta (Centre Party), which currently leads the opinion polls, and the Perussuomalaiset, which pulled a surprise in the last elections, are the parties which rely most on the appeal of male candidates.
Both parties have already named over 120 male candidates, hence, the number of women candidates will remain under 100 even if the remaining number of places would be allocated to women candidates.
The nomination of parliamentary election candidates ends on the 10th of March.
