The Finnish Defence Forces have refuted a report run by in the Finnish language daily Helsingin Sanomat on Tuesday that the country may not be able to supply helicopters to the EU crisis management operation, as earlier promised.
“The troops have been trained and their readiness has been tested as by the EU structures, where we know that the troops are capable of the task,” said Mika Kalliomaa, head of Defence Forces communications.
According to the Helsingin Sanomat, one-fifth of the Defence Forces helicopter division personnel have refused to engage in the crisis management operations.
According to the report, there is also the issue of personnel being engaged in disputes related to compensation in the crisis management operation.
Kalliomaa admitted that only 80 per cent of the trained troops so far have given their commitment.
A discussion is going on with over 10 people, said Kalliomaa in an interview with the national broadcaster YLE.
