FTimes-STT Report, Jan 8

In a new service introduced at the beginning of December, ordinary passport can be renewed online without visiting a police station, said the National Police Board on Wednesday.

With the exception of a few number of times when the service has experienced technical glitch, it has worked well.

The new service aims to reduce the need for personalised services at the police licence service points.

Approximately 700,000 applications of passports renewal are made every year on an average.

Minna Gråsten, the head of permits decision at the National Police Board said the online service can handle a large proportion of these passports applications.

“The online service from the customer’s point of view is flexible, independent of time and place as well as uncongested,” said Gråsten.

An ordinary passport in most cases can be renewed if the previous passport was granted not more than six years ago, finger prints have been taken and name of the applicant has remained the same.
