The Finnish Defence Forces is preparing to introduce a new signal intelligence system in military transport aircrafts, reported Finnish language daily Helsigin Sanomat.

The new system will cost 112 million euros, the report said adding that the construction of the machine has been delayed due to technical problems.

The advanced system is built for C-295M transport aircrafts which are scheduled to replace the Fokker been in use since the 1990s.

The signal intelligence system role is to listen and monitor neighbouring countries’ armed forces communication traffic and radar signals.

The system being bought by the country is manufactured by American defence giant Lockheed Martin.
