Photo Lehtikuva. Finland and Sweden are intending to cooperate in the coming years in military exercises including operations such as submarine chase, said the defence ministers of the two countries.
According to Finland's Defence Minister Carl Haglund, Finland intends to support the Swedish submarines naval fleet.
"This is a good form of exercise, which will offer both countries the ability to respond to such kind of threats if in the future they arise," said Haglund during the security and defence conference in Sälen, Sweden.
Swedish Defence Minister Peter Hultqvist believes the submarine exercise could take place during the period 2016-2017.
According to Haglund, the joint exercise can be implemented within the scope of the current legislation.
However, participating in submarine hunt in a real situating would call for change in legislation.
The joint submarine hunt practice is part of a defence cooperation between the neighbouring countries.
The cooperation is also planned to include the use of training areas, marine and airspace control as well as Armed Forces basic and winter training.
More details on the cooperation will become public next month.
