Terming the report of Turkish news agency Cihan as a false alarm, a foreign ministry press release issued on Tuesday evening said that the question was about an incident at the Consulate General of Finland where the police subdued a difficult client and took him out of the premises.
“The official at the Consulate General was behind a safety glass and no one was in danger,” said the foreign ministry press release.
Earlier, Turkish news agency Cihan reported that police subdued a man and arrested him after he took a staff member hostage at the Finnish Consulate in Istanbul.
The man used a knife to take the staff hostage, reported Todays Zaman, adding that the hostage crisis was ended and the man was taken to police custody for interrogation.
