FTimes – STT Report, Jan 15

Prime Minister Alexander Stubb on Wednesday said the uncertainty of Russian internal politics will increase the weakening of economic activity.

Speaking at the plenary session of the parliament the premier said it was unlikely that Russia would dare to walk the path of reform in the current situation.

Stubb said the weakening economy could unite the increasingly stringent internal controls and more of new imagery of external threats.

Stubb believes that it is honest to admit that Russia is not going to have a democracy similar to the European one.

According to the premier, it is also very likely that the relationship between Russia and the European Union will remain tense.

Stubb hopes that the situation in Russia and its relations would soon turn to a better direction.

The keys are however, largely in the hands of Russia.

“We are keeping the lines of communication open,” said Stubb.
