The Suomen Kristillisdemokraatit (Christian Democrats of Finland) on Thursday expelled Jyväskylä City Councillor Juhani Starczewski from the party for comments he made on the death of the wife of Speaker Eero Heinäluoma.
“It is surprising and sad,” Starczewski told the news agency STT following his expulsion.
The councillor is understood to have related the death of Heinäluoma's wife to the speaker’s positive views on homosexuality and could thus be “God’s vengeance” in an online discussion forum of the Finnish language daily Keskisuomalainen and later in an interview.
Starczewski said he had sent an apology via email to the speaker.
