FTimes-STT Report, Jan 23

News agency STT-Lehtikuva aerial photography was met with a surprise twist on Thursday afternoon when a photographing quad-copter went astray by its own at the city centre of Helsinki.

Photographer Martti Kainulainen was filming using the small quad-copter at the Glass Palace square when the device suddenly ceased to follow the remote control command and disappeared over Kamppi Shopping Centre.

“The quad-copter was about 50 metres high when the connection was lost,” said Kainulainen who was filming plans related to an art museum envisaged at the Glass Palace Square.

The quad-copter weighing about a kilogram and of the size of a basketball was not seen afterwards.

“Hopefully, the quad-copter landed safely and someone finds it,” said Kainulainen.

The device is white in colour and has red stickers. It flew by its own at around 1:00 p.m.

According to STT, the incident has not been reported to the police or the rescue department.
STT-Lehtikuva Editor-in-Chief and CEO Mika Pettersson hopes the quad-copter has not caused damage while landing.

In any case, he promised to offer the finder of the runaway quad-copter coffee and bun.
