The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is suspecting that counterfeit works of art of enormous value have been sold in the country.
 
According to NBI, the counterfeit artworks have been traded at least in Sweden and possibly in France.
 
The pieces include artworks by both domestic and foreign artists, such as Helene Schjerfbeck, Reidar Säreistöniemi as well as Ilya Repin and Wassily Kandinsky.
 
According to NBI, the benefit accrued from the counterfeit works could rise up to 15 million euros.
 
A total of about 250 pieces of artwork have been delivered to the National Gallery for examining their authenticity.

The aggrieved parties are a number of private individuals as well as communities.
 
Over 80 cases have been reported to the police.
 
Furthermore, the works of art have ended in public auctions in the country as well as abroad.
 
According to NBI, the works of art were backed by bogus ownership histories supported by forged documents.
 
More than 20 suspects have been interrogated during the preliminary investigations and five suspects have been detained.
 
According to NBI, the investigations have revealed that there many counterfeit works of art are on sale in the country.
 
The police have called on buyers of valuable artworks to be cautious.
