The Helsinki District Court on Monday sentenced a man to nine years’ imprisonment for murder.
The court found the 58-year-old man guilty of strangling his 56-year-old female friend in Pihlajisto, Helsinki in January last year.
According to the court, the woman had spent the previous night with the convicted man.
The man said he had lost his memory during the evening but denied committing the act.
He claimed an unknown person must have entered the house while he was leaving. However, the court found the man’s argument unconvincing.
According to the court, it is beyond reasonable doubt that the convict would be guilty, when the evidence is considered as a whole.
A psychiatric examination concluded that the convict was responsible for his acts.
