The social media platforms Facebook and Twitter were inaccessible on Tuesday morning in different parts of the world.

A cyber security expert Markus Lintula is convinced that hackers Lizard Group was not behind the disruption faced by social media platforms Facebook and Instagram on Tuesday.

Lizard Squad claimed responsibility for taking Facebook and Instagram via Twitter.

According to Lintula, Facebook and its dependent services seemed to have experienced internal problems with its system.

"I cannot believe that such a group would be behind this," said Lintula.

Lintula said it appears more to be the case of Lizard Squad wanting to take credit and seek media limelight.

Lizard Squad also claimed responsibility for denial-of-service attacks on Microsoft Xbox Live and Sony PlayStation network on Christmas Day last year.

A Finnish teenage boy said he belonged to the group which carried out cyber attack on Sony.

The same group said on Monday that it was behind attack on Malaysian Airline's website.
