A couple has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of an acquaintance in an incident that took place in Mikkola district of Vantaa.
According to the Vantaa District Court, they pounced on a woman with a hammer, axe, and knife as well as kicked her.
The court termed the murder cruel and brutal and found the 51-year-old man and 41-year-old woman guilty of murder.
According to the verdict, the motive of the killing still remains unclear.
A psychiatric assessment carried out said both perpetrators were responsible for their actions.
The three were having a drink together during the incident and at a certain stage the two women began an argument which was followed by an assault on the woman guest.
According to the court, there was an attempt to dispose of the body of the victim by burning the remains.
The victim was discovered at the couple’s apartment after a neighbour had reported blood traces at the corridor.
