President Sauli Niinistö will attend the three-day Munich Security Conference scheduled to begin on Friday, said an official press release.

This year, the theme of the annual conference is the collapse of the international order.

The crisis in Ukraine and its implications for the European security, the situation in the Middle East and the fight against terrorism will be the key topics of discussions in the conference.

In Munich, Niinistö will also participate in a high-level discussion on the conflict in Ukraine and European security. The programme will also include bilateral meetings.

Being organized since 1963, the Munich Security Conference is an independent forum dedicated to promoting peaceful conflict resolution and international cooperation and dialogue in dealing with today’s and future security challenges.

More than 400 foreign and security policy opinion-makers will attend the conference, including around 20 heads of state or government and 60 ministers.

The participants will include German Chancellor Angela Merkel, US Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
