Some of the chemicals in the abandoned containers apparently had leaked onto the ground.
The Eastern Uusimaa police are investigating the matter as environmental pollution and have also appealed for witnesses. In case the perpetrator is found, the penalty could be costly.
"Chemicals used for cleaning the environment usually cost tens of thousands of euros," said chief inspector Juha Tuovinen.
Experts estimate that the containers were dumped on 3-4 February.
