Prime Minister Alexander Stubb on Wednesday said the government has no intention to pull out the legislative package on secondary schools and polytechnics.

The premier, however, admitted that the progress of the matter has not been discussed within the government.

The legislative package has created uncertainty in the parliament with different opinions emanating within the government during Wednesday's plenary session.

Speaking in parliament, the Minister of Education Krista Kiuru had earlier suggested the withdrawal of the funding legislation because the opposition had already blocked a government bill on licensing of the secondary schools and polytechnics.

According to Kiuru, without the licensing legislation, regional access of education cannot be guaranteed.

Similarly, the Trade Union of Education in Finland-OAJ has urged the legislation to be withdrawn from the parliament.

OAJ said the licensing bill which faltered in the parliamentary Education and Culture Committee and the funding legislation are a single entity.

OAJ said that the law would not guarantee regional access of education and training, and would especially place upper-secondary education in danger.
