The Parliamentary Deputy Ombudsman Jussi Pajuoja has criticised the police and other authorities for the delay of the planned Vitja-information system project.

The absence of the new system in the criminal proceedings has been unnecessarily long, and the danger is that conditions for legal processes are hindered, pointed out the Ombudsman.

The project development started back in 2009, and it was scheduled for introduction at the beginning of last year.

However, the process dragged and in the summer of 2014, the National Police Board and the supplier of the information system dismantled the cooperation agreement. The project is still in progress.

Pajuoja believes that many important judicial and information security issues have received little attention. Among other issues, these includes matters such as access rights, archiving of data and the deletion of outdated data.

The Ombudsman has asked the Ministry of the Interior for clarification regarding the progress of Vitja up to January.
