The Prime Minister, Alexander Stubb on Saturday said that the next new government should immediately take necessary economic savings decisions, even if they do not take effect for a few years.

The size of the savings should be, in his opinion, be tied to estimates made by the Ministry of Finance.

"Decisions should be made immediately, even if their implementation is deferred over several years," Stubb said in a statement.

The decision made by credit rating agency Fitch to retain Finland's credit rating, the highest possible, is good news, according to Stubb, although the rating will not persist without resolute decisions.

"Balancing state and municipal government expenditures as well as bold structural reforms of labour increases must take place in the next legislative term," said the PM.

Meanwhile, Minister of Finance Antti Rinne admitted that the aging population of Finland makes the potential economic growth weak, and the country also has problems in the export structure, a report of news agency Xinhua said.
