FTimes-STT Report, Mar 22

Namibia opened its diplomatic mission in Finland on Saturday.

The embassy located in downtown Helsinki was opened on the 25th anniversary of Namibia's independence.

The Finns have long been in contact with the south-western African country.

Martti Ahtisaari consulted on the selection of a UN representative upon Namibia's independence before being elected the Finnish president.

Finnish missionaries have operated in the Namibian region since the 1870s, which is why Finnish names appear among the local people.
