The Prime Minister Alexander Stubb said Kansallinen Kokoomus (National Coalition Party) is ready to implement the 6 billion euro cuts in public finances during the next parliamentary term which was recently proposed by the Ministry of Finance.

Four billion euros will be directed towards cuts in central government budget, while two billion euros will target cuts in municipal expenditure.

The premier, however, did not mention where the one billion euros in cuts will be derived from.

Speaking during Yle Radio Prime Minister Interview Hour programme, Stubb said that consensus or corporatism such as during the labour market organisation negotiations, however, needs to account for results.

"This does not mean a radical reform of Finnish welfare society. This corrective measure is made to ensure that the welfare state can be saved," said Stubb.

He termed consensus in other words unanimity in decision making as an excellent thing.
