A woman who posted a defamatory picture on social media platform Facebook and a man who made a comment in reference to the post were both fined by the District Court of Helsinki on Wednesday.

The photo featured a clearly identifiable woman escorting two children on a harness along a street.

According to the court, the picture and the comment posted by the woman demeaned the woman and her children. The court fined the woman 50-day fines for defamation.

The 25-year old woman was found not to have removed the picture immediately even after being informed the reason of the use of harness because of the children's illness.

The 49-year-old man who commented on the post was also fined 50-day fines for defamation and incitement against an ethnic group. According to the court, the man's comment was fluttery towards the religion of Islam and in addition, it was sinister.

The man defended his action, which made an inference to an assault rifle and the shooting in light of humour.

The deeds took place in 2013.
