A man suspected of circulating child pornographic material was uncovered after his computer IP address was traced to Kajaani by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

This was followed by a search conducted at the man's home which found him in possession of thousands of pictures and hundreds of videos of young girls. The materials were stored in an external hard drive.

The suspect who currently lives in the capital city region was charged on Wednesday by the District Court of Kainuu for aggravated distribution of child pornographic materials.

The man appeared to be silent in the court and denied having circulated the materials online.

During the pre-trial investigation, the man had, however, admitted to have received and circulated pictures of girls aged between 6 and 13 via peer-to-peer network from 2008 to 2013.

The prosecutor’s view was also supported by chat conversations discovered in the suspect's computer.

The district court is scheduled to give its verdict later.
