FTimes-STT Report, April 10

The Finnish Defence Forces will dispatch letters to all reservists in May.

The letters will describe the nature of the wartime tasks in which the reservists will be involved.

The goals of the recall are also to test the registered conscripts’ competence and update their personal information.

Eero Karhuvaara, head of General Staff communication, told news agency STT that the letters addressed to the reservists state where they will be attached to and what would be their roles.

The first batch of letters will be sent after May Day. According to Karhuvaara, the age bracket of the recipients is between 20 and 60 years.

The Defence Forces will send a total of 900,000 letters. The wartime military strength of the army is 230,000 soldiers.

The Defence Forces said the letters were discussed and decided upon in 2013.

The news was first run by the Finnish language daily Helsingin Sanomat.
