Finns would like to reduce the number of ministers, found a survey commissioned by the National Development Foundation.

About 40 per cent of the respondents viewed that the number of ministers should be reduced to 12, or only one minister should be appointed to run one ministry.

About 30 per cent termed the figure of 13 to 15 ministers satisfactory while only 14 per cent supported continuing the present trend of more than 15 ministers.

There are 17 ministers in the current government, down from 19 in the previous.

Currently, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has three ministers.

The gender of ministers does not seem to be very important to Finnish people. The majority, 60 per cent of survey respondents, said it didn’t matter whether the government had a greater number of men or women.

More women, however, said that there should be equal numbers of both sexes.

More than a thousand citizens responded to the TNS Gallup poll in February.
