FTimes-STT Report, April 14

Finland’s oldest person has died at the age of 111, reported a regional newspaper, the Turkulainen, on Monday.

Turku resident Selma Tuominen was born in July 1903 in Askainen. The paper reports that to date she is the third eldest Finnish person to have lived.

Tuominen had a single child in 1927 with her husband Vilho Tuominen.

In an interview with the Finnish language daily Helsingin Sanomat in 2012, Tuominen said she had worked all her life in a wool weaving factory in Lemu. She had operated a large loom there.

In the interview she attributed her long life to two important things: she had never used tobacco or drank alcohol.

She moved out of her own home and into a nursing facility at the age of 104.
