President Sauli Niinistö on Saturday urged the citizens to be present in the polling centres and cast votes in the parliamentary polls on Sunday, regardless of weather condition.

"A small spring rain can only spice things up a little. It shouldn't discourage anyone from voting. I strongly encourage that everyone to come express their opinions [by voting]." Niinistö said on the eve of the elections while visiting a youth security course in Helsinki.

The president visited a youth security course in Santahamina in Helsinki. He also commented briefly to reporters about issues that have emerged during this campaign season.

"Sure there have been extensive discussions about the economic and security situations. At some point, I had hoped for more talks about the everyday topics."

However, Niinistö said he believes that the more mundane issues have become more prominent during candidates' campaigns.
