There is no longer any obstacle for the Perussuomalaiset (Finns Party) to continuing participation in further negotiations, announced Juha Sipilä, the chair of the largest parliamentary party Suomen Keskusta (Centre Party), on Monday.

The Finns Party is on equal footing with other parties after having discussions with the party representatives which lasted the entire day, Sipilä told a press conference in the evening.

Sipilä said he has found confidence in the Finns Party and the objective has been achieved.

“For me it has been important that the election results be respected. The fact that the Finns Party are now on an equal footing with others is of utmost importance to me,” said Sipilä.

According to Sipilä, the result of the negotiations which lasted the whole day does not mean that the Finns Party would automatically be in the government.

Sipilä also met with labour market representatives to discuss the social contract. The continuation of the process was agreed during the course of the meeting.

Sipilä revealed the discussion was fruitful. “It was a very good discussion and a direct conversation. The difficulty points are well known,” he observed.
