Thirty-four of the mothers attended the government banquet hall in Smolna where a celebration in honour of Mother's Day was held.
The celebration was organized by the Mannerheim League for Child Welfare and the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs.
This year, the awardees include, among others, widowed mothers, the mothers of large families, mothers of mentally disabled children, and caregiver mothers. Among them is also a mother who has raised her brother's orphaned children.
One of the laureates works as the mother for a so-called "crisis family," which has cared for 63 children in the past six years.
The award-winning mothers come from all over Finland. The youngest is 42 years old, and the oldest 94.
