FTimes – STT Report, May 12

The question of even distribution of asylum seekers in the EU states rose during the government negotiations, confirmed Juha Sipilä, the chair of Suomen Keskusta (Centre Party).

Speaking in a press conference after the start of the official government negotiations, Sipilä said the issue will be handled by a working group on the EU and immigration.

However, Sipilä said he was not yet aware on the progress of the negotiation.

On his side, chair of Perussuomalaiset (Finns Party) Timo Soini said he does not believe the issue will be a future problem.

“I think that we will succeed more easily in Finland when one sees what kind of views spectrum there is in Europe,” said Soini.

Alexander Stubb, the chair of Kansallinen Kokoomus (National Coalition Party), said the issue is only a proposal from the commissioner.

Only a few supported the idea during an extra-ordinary meeting held in April.

At the same time, the drafting of strategic government programme will be overseen by the main group as well as three working groups.

The working groups will focus on foreign and security policy, immigration and the EU.
