The former head of Helsinki drug unit police Jari Aarnio is suspected of drug offences involving about ten kilos of hashish, according to the Deputy Prosecutor General Jorma Kalske.

The offences are suspected to have taken place in 2010 and 2011.

In connection to the suspicions, the aggravated drug offences have also been raised against three other people. The three other suspects are not police officers and two of them have not been previously accused in the case surrounding Aarnio.

Previously six charges related to drug offences were raised against Aarnio. The preparatory session on the drug-related case faced by Aarnio is due to start on Tuesday at the District Court of Helsinki.

The new allegation brings the total charges faced by Aarnio to 29.

Aarnio has been arrested and remained in custody since November 2013.
