President Sauli Niinistö on Wednesday expressed his satisfaction on the way the government negotiation process has been handled.

Speaking after the Confederation of Finnish Industries -EK spring seminar, the president praised the negotiators for the way they have approached the economic problem.

"It seems to be thorough, effective and very comprehensive. They are certainly good signs, but they are only signs," Niinistö said.

The president, who is also a former minister of finance, was specifically pleased with the negotiators ability to distinguish between fiscal deficit and new pressures to come.

He will inaugurate the new government after his visit to Mexico scheduled for May 29.

Niinistö did not comment on the composition of the incoming government and said that he will inaugurate the government which will be presented before him.

In his speech during the EK spring seminar, the president emphasised societal integrity as the country's strongest competitive advantage.

The president said he does not see any signs of societal integrity being undermined.

In the president's view, societal integrity is such massive, the preservation of which is worth every effort.

"Once integrity is breached, it is very difficult to restore," he said.

Matti Alahuhta, the chair of EK's board also praised Juha Sipilä's social contract initiative.

Alahuhta called on the incoming government to set the objectives and timeframe for the tripartite labour market organisations.

Speaking during the seminar, Alahuhta said the government should take matters in their hands if labour market organisations are not able to reach a consensus.
