Key economic and taxation policies to be incorporated in the government programme have been agreed on, said Suomen Keskusta (Centre Party) chair Juha Sipilä who is leading the talks to form the next government.

The framework of the government programme is complete and the most difficult phase of the negotiations has passed, Sipilä, leader of the country’s largest parliamentary party, revealed on Saturday evening.

The list of the savings to be made is also complete. However, according to Sipilä, issues related to strategic investments remain open.

“We are on the winning side,” Sipilä announced at around 8:00 pm on Saturday at the Government Banquet Hall.

The content of the guideline is yet to be made public. According to Sipilä, discussion on the growth and investment package took the most time.

“At the end, the decision on the taxation was reached quite easily,” he stated.

Alexander Stubb, the chair of Kansallinen Kokoomus (National Coalition Party), one of the three parties in the talks, was pleased with how the whole process has gone.

“The direction throughout the whole time has been good. For us all it is important that the economic policy is credible and that Finland gets to rise,” Stubb said while endorsing the programme.

The chair of Perussuomalaiset (Finns Party), Timo Soini also praised the solution reached. According to Soini, the Finns Party’s perspective was well acknowledged.

“The package on taxation turned out to be very good and coherent as a whole. I am pleased and delighted, and it was nice the paper was acknowledged,” Soini said.

Sipilä, however, did not speculate whether some of the policies already agreed on will be made public on Sunday. The whole package is expected to be completed on Wednesday.

Sipilä said the economic programme is detailed. “On this basis, it would be possible to draft the budget and the fiscal plan in June. The implementation will also be easy as it has largely gone to the digital level. The same applies to the structural reform,” he added.
