The one-week-old government survived a confidence vote in parliament on Thursday with 114 votes in favour to 72 against as the opposition criticised the recent drafted government programme for breaking promises, among other things, on education cuts.
.
The confidence vote took place at the conclusion of the government programme.

A total of 13 members of parliament were absent during the voting. The three major parties which formed the government have 124 seats in the parliament.

“You promised the people before the elections a light package, people voted for you. Now you have decided to make a hard package of cuts which divides people into two,” said Antti Lindtman, the chair of the parliamentary group of the largest opposition party (Suomen Sosialidemokraattinen Puolue) Social Democratic Party of Finland earlier on Wednesday.
