Mon, 15 Jun, 2015 12:02:17 AM FTimes – STT Report, June 15 File Photo – Lehtikuva. A working group led by the National Police Board has submitted a proposal to the interior ministry for changing the firearms application to electronic format as well as easing the application process, reported the Finnish language newspaper Sunnuntaisuomalainen.
The current procedure, according to the authorities, is too strenuous and tricky.
According to the working group, an applicant who has an established hobby and has no criminal background should be able to access the current application process easier.
The interior ministry will make a decision on possible changes to the law.
The Firearms Act was revised in 2011. At the same time, obtaining of firearms became subject to, among other things, suitability test.
According to the entrepreneurs interviewed by the Sunnuntaisuomalainen, the complexity in the firearms application process has also bogged down firearms business.
